Propecia

Propecia is the first FDA approved pill for hair loss. Propecia contains 1 mg of the drug finasteride, that is often sold as proscar. Propecia is the first drug approved for slowing or reducing hair loss on the top and the middle of the head. To date it has not been effictive in reducing receding of the hairline at the temples.

By blocking the enzyme 5 alpha reducctase that lowers levels of DHT is how propecia works, this main enzyme is what converts testosterone to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). The assumption is that blocking the DHT levels will reduce hair loss as DHT will attack and reduce hair follicles in those that are genetically disposed. 

Propecia can have some negative side effects. These can include impotence and erectile problems, increase of blackheads and oil on the skin of the face.
